Every week, we'll tap one creator to browse Marvel Digital Comics Unlimited and pick some of their favorite work from the expansive catalog. This week: ANNIHILATION: CONQUEST co-writers Dan Abnett and Andy Lannig, aka DnA.
"Looking back on this issue, we're amazed that we managed to cramp so much into this issue without it feeling overloaded. The idea was to set out Nova's M.O. as a statement of intent for the series, and also, through the storytelling urgency, establish that he was doing everything at breakneck speed because he's the Human Rocket and there's so much for him to do!
"This is a portrait of a driven man, driven too far despite the warnings he's being given, who eventually comes to a crashing halt. The final moments of the issue re-engage Nova with the Earth of the Marvel Universe, a place he'd been away from for a long time, and sets up the way this opening arc reintegrates him with Earth's heroes and allows him to react to the events of Civil War. The whole package is top-notch, art, colors and cover, and set the bar for what we have striven to maintain from then on."
